Planning consent was granted on Friday, 27 May 2017 to permit the four shops at 31/37 Haven Road, which have stood empty for several years, to be converted to a Tesco Express. The new store will be designed to meet the needs of the people living within the surrounding residential area and will be highly accessible to the local community.
The main access to the store will be by one entrance door with level entrance and bi-parting sliding doors to the front facing onto Haven Road. The appearance of the building will be enhanced through the installation of a new high-quality shop-front along Haven Road and the removal of duct, pipe and flue to the rear will effectively de-clutter the rear façade. The removal of the dilapidated outbuildings at the back will also open up views into this space and generally improve the look of the area.
There are further proposals to re-tarmac and tidy up the car park area to the rear which will further enhance the visual outlook, and provide greater uniformity of car parking. New metal external staircases are proposed to the rear which will greatly improve access to those occupiers of the flats at the upper levels.
