Good bye 2024 and “welcome” to 2025 with its cold and windy January start.
It looks like being a busy year for our Association. Some of the items to keep as busy include, in no particular order:
• Continuing to fight for the best possible outcome for the Beach Road carpark Sago
• The debate on whether we need a Town or Parish Council (more below about some urgent action required)
• The possibility of a Neighbourhood plan
• Our never-ending battle with rapacious developers including our interest in the ongoing battle over the future of the Haven Hotel and Harbour Hights
• Continuing to develop our working association with neighbouring Associations
• Recruiting new members and encouraging some to help with the work of our busy Exec committee
• Revitalising our Street Wardens group and ensuring that they are all supported and their vital contribution is acknowledged
• Continuing our fight to ensure that our beautiful open spaces are properly maintained ( the Branksome Chine clean up was a small but important “victory”)
Regarding BCP’s consultation over the options for Town or Parish Councils, the first consultation period closes on January 19th 2025. I am aware that within the association there is a broad spectrum of views. I intent to submit a fairly general letter before the closing date along the lines “Our association is interested in the possibility of better local government, but needs to have much more information before it can express a firm view”. To help me do this, I would be pleased if any member with a view on the topic would email on p.r.schroeder39@gmail.com before 5pm on Thursday 17th January with their views. Please head the email Poole Town or Parish Councils (Apologies for the short notice!)
Our Membership Secretary Pamela Carvell pampasmark@aol.com continues working, together with our treasurer, to bring our membership records up to date. Could members continue to ensure that we are informed of any change in personal circumstances and that the email addresses we have are up to date and correct.
As ever, more volunteers to help with all aspects of our Association’s work would be very welcome. Just let me know if you would like to explore any possibilities further.
Next BPCCRA meeting date:
The February meeting will be on Wednesday 12th; usual place and time. St Aldhelm’s Church Hall committee room, 7-30pm. We hope to have a speaker from Christchurch Town Council to talk to us about what Town Councils do, and what they cost.
It just remains for me to wish everyone all the very best for 2025.
Peter Schroeder
